Summer outdoor experiences for children with chronic disease

Gales Creek Camp gives kids with type 1 diabetes a rare chance to get outside and try things that are normally out of the question for them, including the independence of overnights away from primary caregivers. Type 1 is a lifelong, life-threatening disease that requires intense management. That leaves kids, from K to 12th grade, without many opportunities to seek outdoor challenges, discover inner strength, and forge their own character through the kind independence only camping can provide.
