About White Ash Learning Cooperative
White Ash Learning Cooperative aims to offer young people the opportunity to derive their education from self-chosen activities and experiences. We believe that education is the sum of everything a person learns that enables that person to live a satisfying and meaningful life. Place Based Learning is interwoven with the history, people, and cultures of this land.
The semester program provides opportunities to build social, emotional, academic, and wilderness skills in an environment that encourages curiosity and experiential learning. Mentors offer a diverse range of engaging daily projects to mixed age groups ranging from 2-15. Projects include nature-based crafts, wild food processing, tending teaching gardens, cooking, learning math through games, Montessori-inspired lessons, science experiments, wilderness and naturalist skills including shelter building, knot tying, hide tanning, bird language, tracking, and more. Participants have access to multiple spaces including a wilderness camp with youth-built shelters, stream, pond, mountain, trails, and the White Ash Learning Library.
