New Hampshire Environmental Educators

New Hampshire Environmental Educators is a network of individuals and organizations working to inspire connection to our natural world by supporting high quality environmental education and advancing environmental literacy. After meeting informally for some time, New Hampshire Environmental Educators officially formed in 1979 and is now recognized as a non-profit organization in New Hampshire. NHEE is governed by a volunteer board of directors. We envision a NH where all people value and feel connected to our natural spaces, are environmentally literate, and act as social and environmental stewards in their communities.

Gen:Thrive, a program of EcoRise, is a collaborative initiative that provides shared data and technology tools to accelerate sustainability and advance health, equity and climate resilience in K–12 schools.

Project Overview

In 2022 NHEE conducted a Status and Needs Survey to gain a better understanding of the current state of environmental education (EE) in New Hampshire schools and to assess what educators need to successfully implement EE practices. From the 117 complete responses from Pre K-12 teachers, administrators, non-formal educators and organizations providing EE programming it became clear that a more robust EE database for the state is needed. For years, NHEE has provided an EE map that lists organizations across NH offering EE programs and resources but organizations could not directly edit their information. With this new platform organizations will create an account and be able to update as needed.

Project Expected Outcomes

There will be a searchable and easy-to-use platform to navigate Environmental Education (EE) opportunities and resources in NH embedded into the NHEE website. Teachers, students or administrators will know where to turn to look for resources, and the platform will allow its users to more seamlessly engage with partners. This will lead to increased EE program engagement and effectiveness. It will also allow us to identify gaps in programming.

Project Next Steps

NHEE will make sure each organization in the state has the opportunity to provide data about their offerings so that their programs are easily searchable by NH’s educators, students and administrators. NHEE will send yearly reminders to make sure organizations are reminded to update their information in the database.
