Education for Climate Resilience (ECR) is partnering with the Vermont Education & Environment Network (VEEN) to conduct a comprehensive landscape analysis of environmental education in the state of Vermont.

Education for Climate Resilience (ECR) is a new, Vermont-based organization established in 2023 and is dedicated to equity-centered climate change education. ECR offers a wide range of professional development and consulting services, focusing on community-based collaborations for local climate solutions and well being.

Vermont Education & Environment Network is a coalition of organizations and individuals whose mission is to foster a network working together to promote high quality outdoor, environmental, and educational experiences. VEEN envisions a society that follows environmental sustainability principles for the well-being of humans and global ecosystems. Since 1973, Vermont Education & Environment Network members, formally VT SWEEP, have been meeting regularly to exchange information and to coordinate efforts among Vermonters involved and interested in environmental education.

VEEN is a member of the North American Association of Environmental Education (NAAEE) Affiliate Network.

Project Overview

This project aims to establish an interactive statewide collection of environmental education resources, featuring an innovative GIS map and a user-friendly dashboard to facilitate program location and data compilation. This initiative aims to elevate environmental literacy levels and promote stewardship behaviors throughout Vermont. By identifying gaps in existing resources and optimizing resource allocation, we strive to enhance the impact of environmental education across the state.

  2. Locator Dashboard
    • Allows educators to easily locate environmental education resources tailored to their specific needs.
    • Enhances collaboration by connecting educators with regional partners and resources.
  3. Data Collection and Analysis
    • Systematically collects data on environmental education service providers.
    • Identifies specific needs and areas with potential gaps in resources.
    • Empowers providers to assess the environmental education landscape on both local and statewide scales.
  4. Searchable Resources
    • Establishes a comprehensive directory of environmental education resources.
    • Enables users to search and locate resources based on their geographic location and specific requirements.
    • Fosters collaboration by connecting educators with resources that align with their teaching objectives.

Project Next Steps

With insights from our landscape analysis, we’re gearing up to boost Environmental Education (EE) all across Vermont. Our goal? Making sure every learner gets quality EE programs and giving EE organizations the data they need to make informed decisions and to secure funding and services that fit their unique needs.

ECR & VEEN will make sure each organization in the state has the opportunity to provide data about their offerings so that their programs are easily searchable by Vermont’s educators, students and administrators. We’ll send yearly reminders to make sure organizations are reminded to update their information in the database.
