Fall: Trees as Habitat

Meet a Tree: Habitat for Wildlife
Cooler Fall temperatures signal long days of summer have passed. In some
communities, trees line streets displaying leaf canopies of brilliant reds, gold, orange, and
purple.
Studying trees by themselves, and as a habitat for living creatures, presents many ways
for Nature Detectives to explore and learn. Through field study investigation, problem solving
activities, and creative expression, we accomplish the following goals:
1. Study and develop an understanding of the structure and systems of a tree that
supports its life and the relationship to a student’s living systems.
2. Discover the relationship between a series of living things that create a healthy
habitat for all.
3. Increase sensory awareness by observing the outdoor world with new eyes; seeing,
feeling, and hearing what may otherwise go unnoticed.
