The Healthy Habitats pilot program is an inquiry based, field trip focused on local habitats at Palo Corona Regional Park and uses observations collected during the trip to provide real data for analysis while addressing complex ecosystem dynamics and function concepts through various metrics of habitat and ecosystem health.
Students will learn to identify, analyze and measure biotic and abiotic factors in different habitat locations in the park and compare data to identify key factors affecting animal habitat quality. Soil property, plant distribution, and wildlife observations will be collected to illustrate that biodiversity and variation in nature is often associated with a healthier habitat, and can be measured through abiotic and biotic factors.
This program is NEW and adaptable to your school/district's needs. We ask for teacher input to customize your students' experience to align with your curriculum and for evaluation of the experience along the way to continue to build a strong program that meets the needs for teachers and students.
