Kids Ocean Day is a state-wide marine debris education program that is funded by the California Coastal Commission and coordinated locally by Friends of the Dunes and Bureau of Land Management. About 1,000 Humboldt students receive a classroom lesson focusing on the health of coastal and marine environments, and the watersheds they are a part of. During the Kids Ocean Day event, these students gather at the Mike Thompson Wildlife Area in the Humboldt Bay for a day of beach
