During the field portion of your trip, students will divide into three groups and head across the street to the Santa Cruz Wharf. Each group will rotate through our oceanography stations: plankton, ocean monitoring, and wildlife viewing/meteorology. Each student will have the opportunity to capture plankton and take different measurements that affect oceanography such as wind speed, temperature, salinity, water color, and water clarity. Following the activities on the wharf, we will come back to our classroom and attempt to identify plankton that students caught that day on a microscope. Each activity will be guided by our educators and docents. Conditions on the wharf change daily, so we never know what we will discover together.
