This pilot-stage program engages teachers and students in grades 5-8 in a series of data-rich local investigations which link plants and animals to the climate conditions which favor their survival. From there, continuing investigations compare local ecology with more distant places. For example, how does life in the desert compare with woodland ecosystems? Field work is extended through use of modeling tools developed in partnership with MIT and use of geographic information system (GIS) mapping tools.
