You(th) Be the Change

You(th) Be the Change is a free educational climate and environmental-based program designed for middle school students in 7th and 8th grade. Students will participate in six in-depth, interactive sessions to learn about climate science, climate change impacts, and local and global actions to combat climate change. We created a google classroom for each of the six sessions, which contain instructional videos, interactive activities, critical thinking questions, and fun lab assignments. Upon graduation, students will receive a certificate of completion, a guidebook to start their own green team, and potential seed funding for an environmental project of theirs. In partnership with Bay Area schools, school districts, and community-based organizations, Acterra aims to strengthen the limited climate-based education that is currently offered and highlight California’s Next Generation Science Standards. Programs such as You(th) Be the Change are needed to ensure that climate education becomes a mainstay in public schools across the Bay Area. The program’s long-term outcome is to inspire youth leadership. Upon graduating from this program, students will have the knowledge, tools, and agency necessary to advocate for themselves and their communities by taking meaningful environmental action. At Acterra, we believe a sustainable future is one that embraces, empowers, and provides a voice for youth. We encourage individual students who are interested in climate change and climate action to register through our website. Click on the “Sign Up Now” button, fill out the form, and we will be in touch! Educators who are interested in offering the You(th) Be the Change program to their students can contact us at ybtc@acterra.org. We are open to partnering with individual teachers, schools, school districts, or extracurricular clubs and organizations.
