Meet Virginia’s Standards of Learning and being one of the few recognized groups that can be used to obtain the Science Diploma Seal. Encourage the development of practices used by scientists, engineers, and mathematicians with mentoring done by the VAS. Identify students who are providing leadership in solving important problems and give them the ability to be state leaders serving on the board. Assist in publishing student projects in the Proceedings and the VOICE (student publication). Encourage the pursuit of careers in science, mathematics, and applied fields by supporting these efforts in scholarships, meeting scientists and other opportunities. Teach students how to develop a project, conduct research, draw conclusions, and make public presentations establishing critical thinking skills. Foster fellowship between VJAS and the Virginia Academy of Science (VAS).

Walden West Outdoor School and Summer Camp/ Santa Clara County Office of Education
For over 70 years, Walden West has provided hands-on, outdoor school experiences in the environmental sciences for the children of Santa Clara County. Walden West's main facility, in the Saratoga hills, and a second location in the Cupertino hills use the outdoors to teach science concepts while introducing students to natural environments. Annually, Walden West serves over 12,000 students during the school year and 2,000 more during the summer.
