We are a unit of the National Wildlife Refuge System whose mission to is to conserve wild lands for the benefit of plants and wildlife as well as allowing the use by visitors in a sustainable manner. Our Refuge was established specifically for the preservation of Bottomland Hardwood Forests which is a shrinking ecosystem. We also have a decent freshwater mussel population and wildlife and plants that utilize the unique characteristics of bottomland hardwood forests like prothonotary warblers.

Maramec Spring Park (James Foundation)
The James Foundation's mission is to carry out the expressed wishes of Lucy Wortham James in the State of Missouri as directed by the Distribution Committee of the New York Community Trust. Ms. James primary wish was for her ancestral land, including the Maramec Spring basin, to remain under private, considerate control and open to the enjoyment of the people. She also wished for the land to remain under regulation and supervision as to ensure the public use shall be seemly and shall not mar its natural beauty.
