Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences
Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences is an independent, nonprofit research institute located in East Boothbay, Maine. From the Arctic to the Antarctic, Bigelow Laboratory scientists use innovative approaches to study the foundation of global ocean health and unlock its potential to improve the future for all life on our planet. Creative, cutting-edge science is our hallmark. We’ve reimagined ocean research – fusing the best of scientific inquiry and entrepreneurial ingenuity. This bold and nimble approach has transformed our independent nonprofit from a scrappy startup to a world-renowned hub of ocean discovery during the last 50 years. With the help of our generous supporters, we’re empowering diverse researchers to collaboratively explore – and exceed – the traditional boundaries of their fields. Together, we are turning the tide on global challenges, and unlocking the incredible opportunity hidden in each drop of the ocean. —- The Keller BLOOM (Bigelow Laboratory Orders Of Magnitude) Program was founded by Bigelow scientist Maureen Keller and Trustee Emeritus James McLoughlin to provide students a hands-on ocean science research experience. BLOOM offers Maine students interested in science the opportunity work alongside professional researchers, exploring the biological, chemical and geological characteristics of the local marine environment through field and laboratory work. Program participants are immersed in a research environment and, through engagement in field sampling and laboratory activities, including data collection, synthesis and analysis, learn what a career as a scientist involves.

BikeMN
BikeMobile
Once a bike breaks down, it may go unridden for months or years. That's where we come in. The BikeMobile's hands-on bike repair clinics get people back on their bikes and teaches them how to make future repairs. Our clinics are great for all ages. Each visit lasts between 2-4 hours, and we can fix between 20-30 bikes per event. Repairs include: flat tires, brakes, chains, seats, shifters, etc. Integrate our clinic into a larger event or make us the main attraction. All you have to do is pick a date and promote it using our provided outreach materials. We can partner with schools, community based organizations, and larger events. The BikeMobile is a service provided by Alameda County Safe Routes to Schools and Spare the Air Youth.
