The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary is managed by NOAA's Office of National Marine Sanctuaries with a variety of educational programs and opportunities in the field and at two visitors centers, of which the Exploration Center is one. The Exploration Center's mission is to connect visitors to the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Under that larger mission, our driving goals behind our educational programs are:

Fostering a more personal connection with the sanctuary and the ocean's relevance in people's daily lives

Monterey Bay Salmon & Trout Project
The mission of the Monterey Bay Salmon & Trout Project (MBSTP) is to preserve and recover genetically native populations of Salmon and Steelhead in streams and rivers with outlets in the Monterey Bay. MBSTP was created in 1976 to respond to the decimation of the local Coho salmon population, and to the declining local Steelhead populations.
