We are a unit of the National Wildlife Refuge System whose mission to is to conserve wild lands for the benefit of plants and wildlife as well as allowing the use by visitors in a sustainable manner. Our Refuge was established specifically for the preservation of Bottomland Hardwood Forests which is a shrinking ecosystem. We also have a decent freshwater mussel population and wildlife and plants that utilize the unique characteristics of bottomland hardwood forests like prothonotary warblers.

The James Foundation's mission is to carry out the expressed wishes of Lucy Wortham James in the State of Missouri as directed by the Distribution Committee of the New York Community Trust. Ms. James primary wish was for her ancestral land, including the Maramec Spring basin, to remain under private, considerate control and open to the enjoyment of the people. She also wished for the land to remain under regulation and supervision as to ensure the public use shall be seemly and shall not mar its natural beauty.

The Marine Science Institute provides engaging, interactive, inquiry-based adventures with San Francisco Bay Area marine life. Led by a team of expert marine science educators, these experiences impact learners of all ages. It is our mission to inspire respect and stewardship for the marine environment. MSI school programs support NGSS through a variety of ways that fit your classroom needs: online, in-class programs, field trips to MSI, and field trips to the coast. MSI offers numerous public programs: afterschool, weekend, family programs, POD groups, homeschool, and independent learners.

The Land & Water Conservation provides a wide variety of services regarding water resource information, water pollution prevention and environmental education along with many other programs and services. We also administer several state programs, including the Wildlife Damage Abatement and Claims Program. Our office provides cost-sharing, technical assistance and educational programs to help conserve Marinette County land & water resources.
