The Elkhorn Slough Reserve, a 1700-acre California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife Ecological Reserve and NOAA National Estuarine Research Reserve, fosters education, research, habitat stewardship, and restoration. Offering 5 miles of trails, a Visitor Center, and outdoor classrooms, the Reserve provides K-College field trips, teacher workshops, and public programs that support Next Generation Science Standards. With virtual visits, hands-on activities, and stewardship opportunities, the Reserve serves Central Coast communities and visitors worldwide, promoting environmental learning and connection to natural resources.

The Emerald Bay Outdoor Academy is a youth science education program based on Catalina Island and operated by the Western Los Angeles County Council, Boy Scouts of America. Our mission is to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards through overnight science programs and Educational Outreach Partnerships. Our dynamic and diverse community of educators seek to create unparalleled science-based adventures and high-impact learning opportunities with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the core competencies of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) woven into the fabric of our curriculum since inception in 2018.

Emerald Cove Outdoor Science (ECOS) Institute
"ECOS Institute is an immersive outdoor science program for 5th/6th grade students.  Located in Running Springs, the 3, 4 and 5 day programs connect and support NGSS into your curriculum with a focus on whole child development.  This experience promotes social and emotional growth in addition to academic content.
Additionally, ECOS Institute has instructors that stay in the cabins with the students so parent chaperones are not required during the program.  Classroom teachers have their own accommodations on site and join activities as well as advise staff about their students. "
