Outward Bound California''s (OBCA) mission is to change lives through challenge and discovery. OBCA uses experiential education in green spaces to foster character development and leadership in youth, veterans and adults. OBCA courses aim to create safe and inclusive groups that empower them to build confidence and resilience. By creating a crew that is dependent on the active participation and investment from each crew member, participants discover and actualize their best selves and develop into leaders who think beyond short-term gains, who act beyond themselves toward the greater good. Ultimately, it is OBCA''s vision to create compassionate and resilient individuals that will return to be agents of change and service leaders in their own communities. Through scholarships and community-based partnerships, Outward Bound California serves students from under-resourced and low income communities that have been historically excluded from safe access to outdoor spaces, particularly students of color. Our programs range from one-day experiences on our Ropes Challenge Course in San Francisco to multi-day expeditions based in the High Sierra wilderness.
