SEI's Energize Schools Green Careers Conferences (GCCs) bring high school students together to explore career pathways and interact with professionals from a diverse set of roles in the rapidly expanding sustainability sector. Professionals from the field join students in their community to talk about how they created a pathway to their current position, what their day-to-day job entails, and offer real insight on the environmental issues and challenges they are facing. Students also present on classroom and community projects they are working on to protect people and our planet. The GCCs take place in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Through 2019, the Green Careers Conferences have hosted over 1,400 high school students and 270 professionals throughout California. In 2019, the California Green Careers Conferences hosted 52 professional presentations and over 430 high school students. Keynotes at the 2019 conferences were given by California Senate President Pro Tempore Emeritus Kevin de León, Director of the award-winning San Francisco Department of the Environment Debbie Raphael, San Diego Green Building Council Director Josh Dean, and SDG&E Environmental Project Manager Kirstie Reynolds.
Due to Covid-19, SEI's Green Careers program has shifted from in-person conferences to virtual webinars. Over 40 Green Careers Webinar recordings are freely available to educators at https://www.energizeschools.org/webinarseries.html.
